How can I drink more water?

How can you drink more water?

I used to be pretty awful at drinking enough water. Somehow I was always so busy, I kept forgetting, and I’d get to the end of the day and think ‘Oh, not again, I’ve hardly drunk any!’ (sigh)

So I thought I’d share with you my top three tips on how you can drink more water while still leading a busy life.

They work for me, and I hope they work for you too.

They even work for my cat Pingu, who in the above picture is fascinated by the water moving in the glass (as I was telling my daughter to ‘hurry up and take the picture!’)

Tip number one: Stop lights

Stop lights, you say? Huh? Let me explain.

I spend a lot of time in my car – even though I’d rather be on my bike – because let’s face it, it’s pretty difficult to transport lots of food on a bike (although I do try). So I go through a big bottle of water each day just with this tip alone.

Here’s what you do: Every time you get to a stop light, take a big drink of water. Easy!

You can do this if you’re on a bike of course – just make sure you’ve brought a bottle of water with you.

Tip number two: Going to the toilet

Every time you’ve been to the toilet, take a big drink of water. And since drinking more water means you need the toilet more often, this becomes a super healthy, beneficial (as opposed to a vicious) cycle. Win!

Tip number three: Commercials, song breaks, or ends of chapters/articles

Last but not least, if you’re watching a movie, listening to music, or reading a book or article, every time there’s a commercial, or every time one song ends, or every time you reach the end of a chapter or article, what do you do?

You guessed it: you take a drink of water. Easy!

The weirdest thing about these tips

The strange thing is that before you know it, you’ll have created your own habits to drink more water easily, and you won’t even have to think about it, because you’ll have made it part of your daily routine!

For example, the other day I left my water bottle on the back seat of my car the other day. I got to a stop light and felt bereft: my hand reached for the water bottle without me thinking about it.

That’s when I knew I had a foolproof system for hydrating myself properly. Yes!

Do these tips help you? Tell me about it!

If these tips help you, I’d love to know (otherwise I may think I’m the only weird person drinking water at stop lights).

So have a super day, and let me know what you think in the comments!
