Those who can, connect! And those who won’t, stay confused

Pensive_Boy.jpg

Today I was thinking about the importance of remembering to connect with others, be it on your raw food journey, to share your passion for old movies, or anything else you can think of.

For me the ability to connect has enhanced my life in so many ways!

Trying to connect as children

I’m reminded of being back in the classroom and having one of those moments when I haven’t got a clue what the teacher is talking about, but I’m too shy to raise my hand. Were you shy as a child?

I sure would never have dreamed of wearing a cabbage dress, much less put a photo of the result on the internet! Ahhh, what a few years will do!

As that child though, all you had to do was to raise your hand, and your question would have been answered, right? You might even have done someone else a favor in the class who was also too shy to raise his/her hand and was hoping someone else – someone like you – would do it instead.

Today I don’t hesitate to ask questions or reach out to others because I’m (hopefully) smart enough to have figured out that the odds are that there are other people who have the same questions, the same hesitations and the same needs as I do.

What about you?

Connecting as adults

Be_Different-300x212.jpg As an adult I’m much more daring, because I’ve learnt that hey, if I don’t ask, guess what? I don’t get! And many an opportunity has flown by me simply because I didn’t ask. Has that ever happened to you?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want any more insights, ideas, new friends or just plain good stuff to pass me by! Not if all it takes is a tiny bit of effort on my part.

Let’s take an example. Did you know that there are LinkedIn groups for just about every area of interest under the sun from jobs to social media to business startups to raw food (now you knew I’d mention that one!) to fishing?

And that if you like scrapbooking you can talk to over 5,000 other fans in a Yahoo forum? Wouldn’t that be a good place to go if you had questions on how to find materials or other things?

While I do like Facebook and find it lots of fun, there are so many other ways to connect, ask questions and meet like-minded people that I almost am tempted to say there’s no excuse for ignorance…almost.

Some things are difficult to talk about and learn about online, but fortunately most things aren’t. And there are plenty of people who really enjoy helping others and giving out tips in all kinds of ways.

There’s no question that’s too stupid, just those who are too proud to ask. (Just ask my website designer!)

For example I don’t think I could have learned about managing a website without YouTube!

So now I’d say…

Get connected! Find a forum, a community, some kind of resource where you can ask questions and connect with people who are doing things you want to be doing, or eating things you want to be eating, making things you want to be making…you get the idea.

And of course you are very welcome to connect…with me!
